The Emerald Network is a vision for 250+ miles of seamless greenways in the Boston Metro Region. 

Imagine one continuous greenway from the Neponset River to Franklin Park; up Columbia Road to Castle Island; and from the Mystic River to Downtown Boston through Sullivan Square and Charlestown. This is the goal of the Emerald Network.

When completed, this system will connect every neighborhood in Metro Boston to open space, transit and jobs, and places to live, work, and play. The Emerald Network will increase mobility, promote active recreation, improve climate change resiliency, and enhance the Boston Metro region’s competitiveness in the global economy.  

Included in the Emerald Network are existing greenways as well as those under construction or in-progress.
